Hazardous conditions continue on the Big Island of Hawaii from the Kilauea volcano. American Cattle News spoke with the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council managing director Dale Sandlin – who tells us approximately 600 head of cattle near the volcano were recently evacuated.
The Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council, Inc. (HCC) is the statewide umbrella organization comprised of the five county-level Cattlemen’s Associations. The 150+ member ranchers represent over 60,000 head of beef cows; more than 75% of all the beef cows in the State. According to their website, “ranchers are the stewards of over 1 Million acres of land in Hawaii or 25% of the State’s total land mass. Listen to Sandlin’s comments here:
